Our Programs
_______________
The ArtSpeaks Project offers adults & youth impacted by trauma non-clinical art-as-therapy experiences via free-access community-based art-making.
Self-expression through the arts offers a non-threatening way for folks to give voice to their lived experiences and conversely, make sense of often difficult and/or frightening emotions. Creative engagement helps to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the body while also helping to foster new perspectives through the exploration of one's symbolic mark-making process. Thus, by reducing stress and increasing self-knowledge, one experiences greater personal resilience and wellness. |
In-Person ArtHives
We offer free-access, community-based art-making groups for adults and youth 16+yrs impacted by trauma. Participants are recognized as inherently expressive, full of potential and encouraged to explore a variety of art-making processes at their own pace. Art-Hives are all co-facilitated by an art therapist (M.A. trained) and a local professional visual artist. Whenever possible, we are joined by guest artists. Sessions are held at the Sault Museum on a bi-weekly Wednesday basis. Check out our social media platforms Instagram (IGTV) & Facebook for updates! |

Community Pop-Ups
ArtSpeaks facilitates outdoor community events in conjunction with the City of Sault Ste. Marie to engage the public in small to medium groups in creating interactive art projects and local revitalizations. Free art kits and mark-making guides are provided for folks to keep and share on to others. |
"Eventually, with the guidance and encouragement of both the instructors and the other clients, I found I was moving forward with the variety of pieces we were working on."
