Building Resiliency Through Arts–Based Learning Since 2017

What We Do

Our Mission
_____________

The ArtSpeaks Project is dedicated to offering adults and youth impacted by trauma due to addictions and mental health challenges a welcoming and safe space to collaborate with local professional artists in the service of cultural mentorship, fostering resiliency through arts-based skill-building towards the creation of personally meaningful works.
How It Began

Our Goals
___________

To serve the adults and youth in our community who have been impacted by addictions and mental health challenges.
To express the physical, emotional, spiritual, and psychological impact of trauma due to addictions and mental health challenges through arts-based skills learning and art-making.
To create an environment that is warm and welcoming, that excites and inspires a keen urge to explore and create using a variety of media and processes.
To create an opportunity for adults and youth living with addictions and mental health challenges to turn their words and stories into art that speaks.
Where We're Going

"I found hope. I found emotions. I found courage. I found joy. I found there is a life worth living and I found I have ability to not only speak about how I feel but also write about it."

Our Funders and Partners
_____________________________

The ArtSpeaks Project came into existence in 2017 thanks to a Seed Grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. ArtSpeaks relies on the generous support of local  artists/arts groups, community grants and public donations.

We are so grateful for our partner agencies Breton House, Sault Area Hospital's Sexual Assault Care Centre and the Sault Ste. Marie Museum
(our home) for their long-standing commitment to our mission of fostering resilience through arts-based learning and skill-building in those impacted by trauma.

Many thanks as well to the City of Sault Ste. Marie's Cultural Vitality Committee for funding our special projects this year.
